Abstract
Learning to program requires substantial practice and continuous problem-solving. Fostering motivation among novice programmers is a major hurdle in computer science education. While game-based learning environments offer a promising route to engage students, authoring rich game-based programming exercises is notoriously time-consuming and complex for educators. This paper introduces an authoring approach and framework designed to streamline the creation of game-based programming challenges. By abstracting game logic, state management, and evaluation criteria into structured components, the framework lowers the threshold for instructors to produce interactive, competitive, and highly engaging coding exercises.
